The Joint Stock Cattle Company (JSCC) has been a significant mystery to the understanding of the early settlement of the Mount Crawford area as well as the Mount Barker district and Bulls Creek 1838 - 1843.
Research has now been able to link the areas and it is now easier to piece together the activities of the Company and to understand some of the relationships.
The presentation covers the activities of the overlanders, including the relationships of the relevant parties in New South Wales at the time, the taking up of surveys and the displacement of settlers who had already selected land to develop, surveyors including Mr Nixon, the track to Town along Gleeson’s hill, and the enduring relationships that developed between members of the Baird family and Robert Rankine – including the time in Gleeville, and the relationships of the settlers from the Borders region of Scotland.

Presented by Ingrid Eidam, who has had a passion for studying local history for the last 25 years.
