HEIA(NT) Mindful Stitching: Circles within circles

Explore some variations of simple embroidery stitches and create a contemporary, colourful, and playful artwork on repurposed or revamped fabrics, while practicing mindfulness.

Using this process as the vehicle for this hands-on workshop, participants will understand the principles of neuro arts, mindfulness, explore the ancient symbology of the circle, and gain a personal practice, within the sphere of professional development.

This will be accessed by sitting mindfully in a circle and stitching in a free flowing, intuitive manner. This will also provide the time, and headspace, for participants to collaborate with others on how the semester has been for them and what has and hasn’t worked in their teaching areas.

Kay Hustwaite draws from neuro-aesthetics or neuro arts, her broad experience as an educator, textile artist and her personal experience to share with you the power of mindful, simple textile art practices to improve wellbeing, while providing contemporary and sustainable creative techniques.

Participants will also be shown how to finish the back of their Mindful Stitched Circle to create a fabulous, completed artwork ready to be hung in their home.

This workshop will appeal to educators looking for a creative, sustainable, accessible, mindful, and portable activity.

Participants will gain knowledge and a creative practice which accesses the benefits of the science of neuro arts for themselves personally, as an educator and for their students.

No previous sewing experience is needed.
