Event description

Hear For You is a place like no other – it’s a place where young deaf or hard of hearing teenagers can hang out amongst other peers, have lots of fun and make lots of friends. Our mentors understand and remember well the challenges that a young deaf or hard of hearing teenager can experience.

Our sessions bring together groups of teenagers to realise that deafness is more of a “difference” than a disadvantage. We show you that they are not alone, to inspire them, and to share hints and tips on how to deal with all the obstacles that come with deafness.

We want to give you the opportunity to share your experiences with someone in the same boat, particularly when it feels like no one else understands.

We are here to help you get the best out of being deaf, to realise their dreams and live life to the full and that’s why we’re Hear For You!

FOR Secondary School deaf/hard of hearing students (age 12-18 years) only

Can I attend just one session and pay for that session?

This program was designed to take place over 4 sessions so the mentor-participant relationship has a chance to grow organically over time. In addition, the themes of each session builds an important bridge to to the next one so we are able to cover a wide range of topics.

We may be able to offer separate modules over the 4 sessions in the near future so check back for more updates.

What is the mentor to participant ratio?

Every teenager gets grouped into their year group (7&8, 9&10, 11&12) and each year group will have 2 mentors (1 male and 1 female). The maximum ratio is 1 mentor to 4 participants.

The ticket says it is for 'One deaf/hard of hearing teenager', does this mean I have to purchase a separate tickets for myself (parent) and siblings?

No, if you and your other children wish to accompany your deaf/hard of hearing teenager to the Parent Seminar, you are welcome to do so at no extra cost.

Why the registration fee?

This is the fee to secure your teenager's enrolment ($100)

The full cost of the Program is $1600 - the remaining balance of $1500 can be paid in the following ways:

  • Upfront payment (discounted to $1400); or

  • Through your NDIS plan/funding if you are registered; or

  • If you are unable to pay the balance due to financial hardship, you can apply to be part of our Community Fundraising Program where we will work to fundraise this through your local community clubs e.g. RSLs, Rotary, Lions, Apex, etc
