LachLandcare’s Healthy Soil for Healthy Farms project aims to develop the understanding of soil health throughout the Lachlan Catchment. We are working with six farmers and Local Landcare Coordinators across the Lachlan catchment to host six soil health workshops. These workshops will have a practical, hands-on approach and will include the following key aspects of soil health and nutrient management:

Understanding and assessing soil health and biology.
Reading soil tests with confidence.
Making decisions for improved nutrient management and soil health.

To bring you up to speed on all this soil knowledge, we have engaged well known agro-ecologist David Hardwick. David has over 20 years’ experience in sustainable agriculture and has a high level of technical knowledge combined with a warm style of delivery that is easily digestible and inspiring. To make sure that the farmers of the Lachlan catchment get the most out of this workshop series we will be conducting two rounds of workshops in August and September. We would encourage trying to attend a workshop in each month to get the most out of the experience and we have tried to space the sites evenly throughout the catchment to make travel as easy as possible. The August workshops will deliver a fundamental understanding of soils and the key steps to their effective management. The September workshops will build on this by practising the key soil skills needed to make informed management decisions. While the September workshops build on the knowledge gained in August, don’t worry if you can’t attend both. You will still learn an enormous amount about soil health!
