This lecture is back by popular demand, with our own living legend, Professor Phil Beart.

Professor Beart will be exploring the links between eating right and having a healthy brain. How does what you eat impact your cognitive abilities?

Professor Philip Beart

Philip Beart (PhD ANU, DSc Melbourne) has been a NH&MRC Research Fellow for 30 yrs and is currently Professorial Fellow in the Florey Neuroscience Institutes and Adjunct Professor in Pharmacology, University of Melbourne. He worked at the Cambridge and Harvard Universities, before holding positions at the Austin Hospital (Dept of Medicine, University of Melbourne) and Monash University.

Phil's research focus is on brain cell death and homeostatic mechanisms pertinent to neurological diseases, and the development of new therapeutic strategies. Phil has a long-term commitment to the promotion of medical research, and especially neuroscience, to the wider community and has provided extensive service to the NH&MRC (RF & RGMS User Reference Committees; RF & CDF Committees). Phil currently serves on Promotions and Leadership Committee, and has a long term commitment to the International Society for Neurochemistry, where he is currently the Historian. He serves on numerous Editorial Boards. His interests include: yoga, swimming, tennis, reading, music, cinema and oenology.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Tram 19, Stop 11 heading away from the city to the Kenneth Myer Building (opposite Royal Melbourne Hospital). Look for the Dr Dax café sign and you’ll know you’re there.

Reasonably priced parking (including many disabled spaces) is available under the building with easy access to the auditorium.

Important note: Grattan Street will be closing down to traffic from Feb 19 so if you are attending by car please allow an extra 15 minutes to travel.
