About the Course
Healthia’s Sports Trainer course is designed to build on knowledge developed through the Level 1 Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) Sports Trainer course and appropriate CPR/First Aid courses. The course will focus on refining and developing clinical reasoning and practical skills required for assessing and managing:
• Sport related concussion
• Haemorrhage control and wound management
• Spinal injury management
• Taping
Who Should Attend
Sports trainers or recently qualified physiotherapists who:
- have already completed SMA Level 1 (or equivalent)
- are looking to upskill, extend or refresh their sports trainer
Presenters
The course has been designed by experienced clinicians working in sport and high performance. Each presenter has experience in clinical education and will share their unique expertise to ensure each participant strengthens their knowledge and skills and develops confidence in providing care in sport-specific contexts.
Melissa Crunkhorn
Melissa is an APA Musculoskeletal and Sports and Exercise Physiotherapist. Melissa has a special interest in high performance sport, particularly working with para-athletes. Melissa has worked across a number of different sports including the Australian Para-cycling Team, the Australian Paracanoe Program, the Australian Para-athletics Team, and the Queensland Academy of Sport Triathlon, Sailing and Track and Field Programs. She is currently completing a PhD in performance health in triathletes.
Paul Scurfield
Paul holds masters’ degrees in Physiotherapy and Strength and Conditioning, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. He is a Clinic Partner at Allsports Physiotherapy Parkwood on the Gold Coast and has extensive experience across a wide range of sports. Paul is the current Director of Rehabilitation at the Queensland Reds and has previously worked as the Head of Rehabilitation for the Gold Coast Titans. Paul is passionate about injury management and rehabilitation across all levels of sport.
