Headset Heroes: Afterschool Virtual Reality
Overview
Guided by immersive technologist Cameron Coggins, participants will explore cutting edge VR technology, creativity and sustainability across three exciting afterschool sessions.
Over the course of three weeks students will:
- Use industry-leading VR equipment
- Design and build their own interactive 3D virtual worlds
- Learn the fundamentals of 3D design and immersive storytelling
- Create VR experiences that make a difference
Open to youth aged 10–16 years.
Week 1 - Thursday 5 March
3.30pm - 5.30pm
Intro to Virtual Reality: Get started with the basics of VR. Students will learn how to use the latest Meta Quest 3 headsets and create their very first virtual reality projects in an interactive, beginner-friendly session.
Week 2 - Thursday 12 March
3.30pm - 5.30pm
3D Modelling & World Building: Dive deeper into VR creation by learning how to design and model 3D objects. Students will build upon their virtual worlds and truly bring them to life.
Week 3 - Thursday 19 March
3.30pm - 6pm
VR for Sustainability + Showcase Event: Discover how immersive technology can drive change. Students will explore sustainability issues and use their skills to build purpose-driven VR experiences. We’ll also get to play popular VR games such as Beat Saber, then friends and family are welcome to come along for the final half-hour to experience student creations first-hand.
