Harbour Explorers - Learn about our Living Harbour

Watsons Bay LibraryWatsons Bay, NSW
Wednesday, Apr 15 from 10:30 am to 12 pm AEST
Overview

A school-holiday learning experience for children aged 8+ and families to discover and care for Sydney Harbour’s marine habitats.

Ever wondered what lives in our harbour?

Join Woollahra Council and Project Restore scientists from the Sydney Institute of Marine Science (SIMS) for a fun school holiday, family-friendly educational event that brings our local marine biodiversity to life, inspired by local harbour restoration work!

Learn about Project Restore, a marine restoration project based in Sydney Harbour aimed at restoring and enhancing Sydney Harbour’s marine habitats. From seagrass meadows, kelp forests to fish habitats and Living Seawalls.

The event will take place adjacent to the recently installed Watsons Bay Living Seawall. These are specifically designed seawall panels with diverse shapes that create and enhance habitat for marine life - helping restore biodiversity in our local waters.

What to Expect?

  • Explore local harbour habitats: Get a close-up look at real Living Seawall installation and learn how they can support tiny marine creatures and why this matters for our harbour
  • Create your own Living Sea Wall: Draw and colour local marine species to build a collective wall of creativity
  • Guided explorers walk to the Living Sea Wall and hear fascinating stories from scientists

Become a Harbour protector and learn how we can help look after our harbour's future!

Who should attend? This free event is designed for kids and families to learn, create, and celebrate local biodiversity, species habitats, habitat restoration initiatives and marine stewardship.

What to bring: Hat, sunscreen, water bottle, and your curiosity!

Registrations are essential for both children and parents/carers to join this event. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Not large group or party bookings. Maximum group size 3-4 people.

This event is part of Woollahra Council's ongoing work to restore and protect our harbour habitats in partnership with the Sydney Institute of Marine Science flagship project, Project Restore.
