Event description

Description

Calling all QLD hackers!

The Legal Forecast and the Department of Justice and Attorney-General (DJAG) are joining forces to bring you the first event of its kind: Hackcess to Justice.

Hackcess to Justice is the closing event of Law Week, a hackathon where talented tertiary students and early career legal professionals passionate about law and technology will design and ultimately pitch an innovative solution to neighbourhood disputes before a panel of esteemed judges.

In the first event of its kind, Hackcess to Justice will bring fresh, innovative minds together to formulate ways to improve and facilitate access to justice in our community. This year’s issue is neighbourhood disputes and how they can be prevented and resolved at an early stage.

There will be a myriad of exciting prizes yet to be announced; among them is the opportunity to work with DJAG to develop and deliver the winning concept!

Where: Queen Elizabeth II Law Courts

When: 18-20 May 2018

Who can participate: Tertiary students from all disciplines including law and technology and early-career legal professionals

If you are interested in being a roaming mentor, event volunteer or sponsor, get in touch with the Qld team at QLD@thelegalforecast.com.

Intellectual property

The ideas, pitches and prototypes generated during the Hackcess to Justice Hackathon will be subject to a Perpetual Licence in favour of the Department of Justice and Attorney General. This means that although intellectual property in anything you create over the weekend remains with your team, by entering the competition you agree to grant DJAG a license to use your ideas and solution. This will ensure that DJAG can implement the best solution in practice, and have the potential to make a real difference to neighbourhood disputes problems that you have identified. We encourage all competitors to read the Terms and Conditions in detail, and speak to TLF or DJAG if you have any questions.

The terms and conditions for participating in the event can be found here.
