About this event
'A Soft Pulse' - 1:00pm - 2:15pm
Titled A Soft Pulse the 2022 Gertrude Street Projection Festival invites artists to celebrate and examine a spectrum of care; from love through to resistance, vulnerability through strength. Curator Eleanor Scicchitano and Director Priya Namana will reflect on the curatorial rationale and festival framework, and invite artists to speak to the way in which care features not only in the works, but their ongoing practice. Featuring artists Henry Wolff, Anne Wagner and Jen Valender
Public + Private Space - 2:30pm - 3:30pm
Where does Private Space end and Public Space begin? What does it mean to exhibit and exist in Public Space? How does care translate in these spaces? Artists exhibiting in the 2022 Gertrude Street Projection have responded to the curatorial rationale exploring softness, care and vulnerability. Hear from these artists about how they have explored these ideas in their works, and what it means to move their works out of the Gallery/Private Space and into the Public Realm. Facilitated by Chris Parkinson and featuring artists Spencer Harrison, Freya Pitt and Sal Cooper.
Collaboration - 3:45pm - 4:45pm
Collaboration comes in many forms; between artists, materials and communities. Collaboration creates a new space for experimentation, play and reflection on one's practice through exchange, giving artists and communities a language to learn from each other, and to expand their ideas through this dialogue. The artists on this panel will discuss the role of collaboration in their practices and how to be vulnerable in collaborative contexts. Facilitated by Susan Maco Forrester and featuring artists Rachel Main, Billy Raffin, Corrie Wright, and Josef Gatti.
Practice + Place - 5:00pm - 6:00pm
The stories we tell through artworks are often borne of a specific time and place, celebrating and examining the lives of the artists themselves, and the communities in which they live and work. In this conversation, we will discuss how their works in the festival have been influenced by the times and places in which they were created, and what it means to locate the meaning in their works in different contexts. Featuring artists Bon Mott _/\_, Anna Schwann, and Luigi Vescio.
The conversation series will be catered with light refreshments and food included.
