Event description

Description

Join us for this exciting full-day event where we showcase recent developments in school-based sexuality and relationships education (SRE).
Hear from a broad range of engaging speakers, meet with WA agencies who can support you with your delivery of SRE and witness a number of practical activities you can take straight back to the classroom.
This symposium is suitable for anyone who may deliver SRE in schools. This includes teachers, school health nurses, support staff, administrators and external agencies. Pre-service teachers are also welcome.

Keynote Presentation: Right from the start - Empowering children from K-10 through sexuality education

By Jenny Walsh (La Trobe University)

Have our programs kept up-to-date with children and young people's SRE needs? What are the challenges schools and families are facing and how do we address them? A year-by-year overview from K-10 of new and familiar SRE priorities for contemporary education.

Please download this flyer for more information about the symposium program (and to help you select your preferred workshop sessions).
Stories from the Field: We are seeking educators willing to share their classroom experience of teaching SRE to their students. If you are interested in making a short 10-minute presentation to our delegates, to share an effective teaching strategy, please view this link for further details. The final list of presenters in this section will be offered a discounted ticket price.

FAQs
What do I need to do before I register?
After the lunch break there is opportunity to attend two workshops. Please have a look at the list of workshop sessions and choose your top three! You will be asked for your preferences as part of the registration and we will try out best to place you in the workshops you have selected.
You will also need to know your car's license plate number so that we can arrange free parking for you. Please don't worry if you end up driving a different car on the day - we promise to take car of any parking tickets that might come your way.
Can you issue my school/agency an invoice?
For speedy service, our preference is that you use a credit card as payment. This will ensure you get a ticket straight away. However, if you would like us to issue your school or agency with an invoice instead, please order your tickets as usual ensuring all attendees are listed. On the registration page, under 'payment method' you will be able to select 'pay by invoice.' Curtin staff will then generate an invoice that you should forward to your accounts department for prompt payment. Please allow 7 days for this to occur. All invoices must be paid in full before the event.
There are a few people from my workplace who plan to attend. What do I need to know?
In order to qualify for a group discount (4 or more attendees), all tickets must be purchased at the same time using one credit card. The person purchasing the tickets must provide the full name and email address for all attendees. You also need to know what workshops they wish to attend and the license plate of their car! Please have all this information ready before you attempt to buy your tickets.
If you have a group of people attending this event and they would like to pay separately, each person will have to register separately and the group discount will not apply.
Group discounts cannot be applied retrospectively.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
A map of the Curtin campus can be viewed here. The Curtin Medical School (Building 410) is located next to carpark B4 at the northern end of campus. It is a non-teaching week, so we expect parking to be relatively quiet.
As part of your ticket price, we are offering each delegate free parking on the day. We just need to know your car's license plate number when you register. Please don't worry if you end up driving a different car on the day - we promise to take car of any parking tickets that might come your way.
For information on public transport routes and timetables, view the Transperth website (enter 'Curtin University' as your destination end).
Will you feed me?
Absolutely! We will welcome you with a hot coffee or tea and then feed you throughout the day. If you have any special dietary requirements, please mention these as part of the registration process.
Can I update my registration information?
Once you have placed an order you will be sent a confirmation email. At the bottom of this email (or anytime you log into Eventbrite) you will be able to access 'My Account'. It is here that you will be able to view all your ticketing information and make any changes.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
No, it is not necessary to bring your ticket with you. We just ask you to sign in at our registration desk when you arrive.
What is the refund policy?
Please choose to purchase your ticket carefully as refunds will not be issued. If you are no longer able to attend this event, your registration details can be changed to allow a friend or colleague to attend instead.
The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?
We ask that all attendees who attend this event provide their correct contact details. This way, each attendee will receive any important updates direct to their email. All attendees will also be given a certificate at the end of the day and we'd like to get your name correct!
