Growing a Successful Transition to Independence - 3 Hour Workshop
This workshop provides best-practice content to support and empower young people to successfully transition to independence and adulthood.
Who is the Workshop For?
Teachers, foster parents, caregivers, disability workers, social workers, youth workers, case workers, support workers, professionals and practitioners who support children and young people transition to independence and adulthood.
Key Content
- The role and impact of transitioning from out-of-home care into independent living for young people.
- The under-the-surface impacts of this transition — including identity formation, re-experiencing feelings of abandonment, grief and loss, and related emotional factors.
- Applying a relationship-focused, personalised and growth-orientated approach to building child and youth capacity for independence.
- Assessing and understanding a young person’s readiness for independence.
- Working with young people in shared intent.
- Foundational growth intents that care communities can prioritise during the transition process.
- Best-practice “how” strategies and actions — including preparation, planning, shared communication, and working side-by-side with young people through every stage of transition.
Facilitators
The session will be delivered by LBI Foundation practitioners with significant experience in supporting children and young people transition to adulthood.

Delivery
The session will be delivered by Zoom, which is an online web-based platform that can be accessed by smart phone, tablet and computer. All participants who register will receive an email 24 hours before the session with the Zoom code.

This workshop is a Specialist Application Module of the broader IMPACT Program. Participants completing the workshop will be invited to complete an online accreditation process and receive a certificate linked to their LBI learning record.
