What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing. It is a powerful, evidence based therapy which helps to reduce the distress associated with a difficult memory. It has been well researched and is helpful to resolve any difficult memory, regardless of the nature of the event.

How does it work in a group?

Who should not attend?

If you have a diagnosis of psychosis, high levels of dissociation, excess use of drugs or alcohol or a lot of suicidal thoughts, then we recommend that you  access one on one care instead of participating in a group situation. EMDR can still be effective, but a group session may not suit your needs.

Anyone with symptoms of trauma following the Bondi attack - feeling very upset, constant thoughts of the event, trouble feeling safe, difficulty sleeping, nightmares, constant worry, not able to concentrate, irritability, frequent crying, not able to enjoy usual activities.

What if the event is sold out?

If the event is sold out and you are interested in participating in a future session, please email me at admin@therapynest.com.au and I will add you at a wait list. More sessions will be organised depending on the level of interest and attendance.

Question 6

Do I have to talk in front of other people in this session?

Accepted Answer

No! This is not a group support or discussion forum - in Group EMDR we do not share stories or experiences. You will be doing your own work, just in the presence of other people in the group. At the end there is an invitation to share a positive learning from the session, but you do not have to.
