Grief-Sensitive Practice

Grief-Sensitive Practice

Overview

Recognising and Responding to The Impacts of Loss

We inhabit a world where loss, change, destruction and death are ever-present and ongoing. Grief is an inevitable, often uninvited, yet deeply intimate, companion across the path of life.

At times grief rages through lives and hearts, sometimes it howls like an untamable wind, other times it gently sighs, almost imperceptibly. Other times grief is soothing and comforting – as it so often connects us to what, or who, we love.

In this workshop, grief and sorrow will be foregrounded as core human experiences which hold fundamental significance and relevance to every life and every client. Focus will be given to cultivating grief-sensitive practice in which the therapist attunes to, and is receptive and responsive to, a client or communities emergent grief experience.

Emphasis will be given to the grief associated with death and bereavement, ecological sorrow and existential threat. The weekend will include a weave of experiential learning, reflective clinical practice and relevant pieces of gestalt therapy and grief related theory – with clear pathways to application in work with clients or groupwork.
