Greet the Moon: A Gathering of Heart and Art

NOTE: The cost covers the workshop materials, including journals.

In The Conference of Birds, the birds journey valley by valley, lifting veils until they arrive at the Simurgh. As the blessed month of Ramadan approaches, a similar preparation unfolds—of wings and wounds, intentions and longing.

This pre-Ramadan gathering brings together spirituality and art. Through poetry, visual art, journaling, embroidery, and guided reflection, participants engage with the Holy Qur’an and the self, cultivating readiness to welcome the sacred month with presence and care.

Stations

Participants move through a series of reflective and creative stations.

1. The Intention Station (Spiritual Core)

Led by Sister Julie Karaki
“What kind of soul does Ramadan want to meet?”

A guided space for grounding intention and spiritual alignment.

2. Journal Binding & Preparation Station

Led by Shia Shelves
“You are binding your inner witness .”

Participants prepare a personal journal to accompany them through Ramadan.

3. Visual Art Station (Calligraphy)

Led by Sister Ghadeer
“What does Ramadan look like in the heart?”

An exploration of sacred expression through visual form. Choose one Name of Allah for your journey in Ramadan this year.

4. Poetry & Writing Station

Write a letter to your self
If Ramadan could speak, what would it say to you?

A reflective writing space rooted in sincerity and longing.

5. Embroidery / Thread Station (Sisters Only)

Led by Handmade by Zahra
“Stitching the soul for Ramadan, what you stitch, you remember.”

A tactile practice of remembrance and patience.

6. Reciting from a Broken Place (Brothers Only)

Participants learn a simple, sorrowful melody, exploring how brokenness, hope, and closeness to Allah (SWT) [God] are carried through sound.
