Explore some of Hume’s nature conservation reserves and become a citizen scientist during the Great Southern Bioblitz from Fri 24-Mon 27 October! Join guided walks and talks to help record our region’s precious biodiversity, using iNaturalist.

<h4>Please join Hume City Council's Urban Biodiversity Officer, Melissa Doherty and MCMC's Dr Angela Foley to visit one of Hume's most significant grasslands at Bababi Marning, aka Cooper Street Grasslands.</h4>This precious native grassland reserve is located between Cooper Street, Metrolink Circuit and Merri Creek, Campbellfield.Meet at the small park, located at 60-68 Metrolink Circuit, Campbellfield. We'll notice how birds and habitat reveal Wurundjeri Country's seven seasons through animal behaviour and plant display.Beginner citizen scientists welcome.Ther is no public transport in the nearby area.Funded by Hume City Council and a Community Participation Grant. <h3>Great Southern BioBlitz</h3>This community biodiversity survey is for the global Great Southern BioBlitz (GSB) weekend running from Friday 24 October to Monday 27 October 2025. It’s free, easy, and fun to get involved.Bring your mobile phone or digital camera to take pictures of the wild plants, animals and fungi you see, or make sound recordings of frog or bird calls. Any observations taken over the four days, need to be uploaded to <a href="https://www.inaturalist.org/" title="https://www.inaturalist.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">iNaturalist</a> by Sunday 2 November 2025, to be included in the Great Southern BioBlitz 2025. These observations are automatically added to the GSB projects.This is a friendly competition amongst cities to make the most observations of the most species by the most people.
