Great Lent Masterpieces
ROMCA presents Great Lent Masterpieces - a profound and contemplative concert of sacred choral works drawn from the Great Lent period.
This program features hymns traditionally heard throughout the Great Lenten period - music marked by humility, repentance, and deep spiritual introspection. The repertoire includes works by some of the most revered composers of Orthodox sacred music, including Chesnokov, Bortniansky, Zinoviev, Sheremetiev, and Kastalsky.
Several of the works performed in this concert are taken from ROMCA’s most recent Great Lent–themed album, recorded to preserve and share the depth and beauty of this unique repertoire. Sung a cappella in Church Slavonic, these hymns reflect centuries of liturgical tradition and offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience the sound world of Orthodox worship outside of the Lenten services themselves.
This concert marks ROMCA’s first ever tour to Geelong, following performances in almost every major city across Australia, as well as acclaimed national and international appearances.
