Event description
How did life leap from one single-cell entity in the ocean to the millions of animals, plants and bacteria we see today?

About this Event

Life on Earth has made many great leaps from the first living single-cell to the domains of life today with all the complexity of bacteria, archaea, plants, and animals. But what did it take for that evolution to occur? How did fish actually walk onto land? Where would the planet be without plant life producing oxygen and forming the basis of ecosystems for 500 million years? How did these transitions look in Australia?

We are pleased to announce our panellists are:

Dr Alice Clement - Research Associate, Flinders Palaeontology Group, Flinders University

Dr Myall Tarran - Adjunct Palaeobotanist, Environment Institute, University of Adelaide

Paul Curnow - Astronomy Lecturer, School of Natural and Built Environments, University of South Australia

Please join us on Friday 6th December at the Rob Roy Hotel (106 Halifax Street, Adelaide). This event kicks off at 6:00 pm and will finish by approx. 7:30 pm (doors will be open from 5:30 pm for those who wish to arrive early for seat). The principal goal of SciPubAdelaide is to make science engaging and accessible to the public. Each panel consists of three experts who deliver 10-15 minute presentations on their area and then open up to questions from the audience via a moderator. Panellists are selected primarily on their ability to effectively communicate science in an engaging and non-technical manner. SciPubAdelaide is held in a pub so that scientists, aspiring scientists, and non-scientists can learn, discuss and think critically about hot topics in science.

Please note: Though Eventbrite issues automated tickets, we do not check or collect tickets at the venue. RSVPing does not guarantee a seat; the RSVP facility makes it easier for us to estimate numbers so that we can accommodate accordingly. Doors are open from 5:30pm and due to the popularity of some past events, we would advise patrons to arrive early to avoid any disappointment. Thank you for your support.

We will be delighted to see you there!
