Overview

Free Community Glossy Habitat Planting Day - Grab your gloves and your sense of adventure!

Join Us for a Glossy Habitat Planting Day

Grab your gloves and your sense of adventure — you’re invited to a community family-friendly planting event at Tuan Reserve! Help grow future food and habitat for the beloved Glossy Black-Cockatoo, a vulnerable native species that depends on healthy bushland for survival.

What’s Happening
Together we’ll be planting native feed trees, nesting species, and other habitat plants — a hands-on way for all ages to make a real difference for local wildlife. It’s a fantastic way to connect with nature, learn from experts, and spend quality time outdoors with your family and friends.

Guest Speakers

  • Janet Carew will share insights into the Future Food for Glossies Project, highlighting the science and passion behind creating lasting food sources for these magnificent birds.
  • Ben Green from Sunshine Coast Council will talk about the ecological significance of Tuan Reserve, its role in regional conservation, and why it’s such an important stronghold for native species.
  • Eric Anderson AO will teach us how to identify Glossy Black-Cockatoos in the wild, so you’ll head home ready to spot these iconic birds next time you’re in the bush.
  • Bushland Conservation Management will explain what acoustic monitoring is revealing about the local Glossy Black-cockatoo population, using bioacoustic sound recording to detect calls and better understand where these birds feed and nest.

Who Should Come
This event is open to everyone — nature lovers, volunteers, families, kids (bring boots and enthusiasm!) and anyone curious about conservation. No experience needed — just bring your energy and love for our local environment.

This day is proudly supported by the Sunshine Coast Council’s Grant Program, helping bring our community together to protect and enhance wildlife habitat.
