Let’s talk about the power of teams
In the workplace, women can often bear the brunt of an unequal distribution of power. They may have to deal with being condescended to, dismissed or ignored. It's a wicked environment where men can be rewarded for using power poorly (dominance perceived as strength) and women may be penalised for using power at all (being perceived as 'bossy' or a ‘doormat’).
These false choices can limit your effectiveness. There will always be an unequal distribution of power, both its type and its effective use, within a team. This presentation looks to understand the use of power generally and delve into its effects, appearance and mitigations at a gender level.
Using sociology, group dynamics and psychology you will learn how to wield your power in the most effective way. You will hear techniques that women have used that work with their style to be appropriately represented within their team. This is not a workshop about changing who you are to match a predefined image of a powerful woman. It is instead a presentation on how you can lean into your strengths and find out how to mitigate your weaknesses.
By the end of the talk, my aim is that you have a greater sense of how your team operates and be able to apply new techniques to allow you and your team to be effective, collaborative, creative and fulfilled.
