Getting Published Panel Discussion 

An independent Australian design and culture magazine bringing together emerging writers, photographers, artists and graphic designers based between Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth. Mous encourages its readers to think, question and delve deeper. Within our five categories you will find a creative and intellectual exploration into art, design, society and sex through panel discussions, creative workshops and, of course, our print magazine.

Mous Magazine

This month our Melbourne panel will be all about how to have your work published in magazines and literary journals. At this panel we will be bringing together editors from prominent Melbourne-based publications who will share what they love to see in a pitch or submission, mistakes for new writers to avoid and other must-have industry knowledge. If you’re just getting started in your writing career, this panel is not to be missed!
Joining our panel will be some crucial voices in the Australian publishing scene; Hella Ibrahim founder and editor of Djed Press and Jini Maxwell co-director of National Young Writers Festival and editor of The Lifted Brow. The panel will be moderated by our founding editor Bonnie Stevens. You can read more about our panellists and their practice below!

Panellists 
Hella Ibrahim: Hella Ibrahim is an Egyptian-Australian Muslim editor with a passion for activism through writing and publishing. She works as an editor at Jacaranda on weekdays, and is the founder and editorial director of Djed Press, an online publication that provides a paid platform for creators of colour. 
Jini Maxwell: Jini Maxwell is a writer and arts worker based in Narrm. She is co-editor of prominent Australian literary journal The Lifted Brow, and co-director of National Young Writers Festival.
Panel Host 
Bonnie Stevens: Bonnie Stevens is the founding editor and publisher of mous. magazine, the founder and host of monthly panel discussions series INFORM and a former content editor for ASOS AU. Her work has appeared in publications such as SBS Sexuality, Archer Magazine, Global Hobo and Inside Out. In 2017 she was shortlisted for the QLD Premier’s Young Writers and Publishers Award.
 
 
The Panels
Each month we will host a panel where industry professionals will answer questions and provide insight into their field. This year, our panel discussions will take place in both Brisbane and Melbourne each month!
Our Partners
This year, we are very excited to announce a new partnership with the Brunswick Mechanics Institute, which will be the home of our Melbourne panel discussions. Our Brisbane panel discussions will, once again, be supported by our continuing partnership with the fantastic people at MetroArts.
