Overview

A 2 day CI immersion with Valentyn Korotkevych exploring gravity, touch, and the relational geometries between bodies in motion.

Geometry of Sensing Bodies 2 Day CI workshop with Valentyn Korotkevych is coming in March 2026.

IMPORTANT: This event runs across 2 days:
Saturday 7th March 10am - 5pm
Sunday 8th March 1pm - 7pm
(ticket includes both days)
Location: Tallebudgeera Community Centre - 611 Tallebudgera Creek Road, Tallebudgera Valley

This exploratory multi-day, non-residential Contact Improvisation workshop tunes attention toward the invisible structures shaping our movement: lines of force, points of contact, shared centres of balance, and the living geometry that emerges between bodies in motion.

We will explore perception:
How bodies negotiate gravity, momentum, and risk.
How sensing sharpens under pressure.
How a third intelligence emerges when two bodies remain in touch, yet move independently.

Through guided exploration, weight-sharing, and playful investigation, we enter thresholds where fear and pleasure meet, where falling becomes information, and where the body learns faster than the mind.

This is a space for curiosity, courage, and listening with the whole body.
A practice of attention.
A study of relation.
A geometry of listening, breathing, sensing.

From Valentyn on the workshop material:

If classical geometry maps ideal figures in abstract space, Contact Improvisation softens the ideal into proposition, response, and meeting. Geometry is drawn by sensing bodies in constant negotiation with physical laws and imagination, where touch is not an endpoint but an ongoing tool for inquiry.

When two bodies meet and gravity functions as the primary architect, they generate a shared point of reference, a moving axis around which balance, fall, suspension, and recovery are organised. This point is never static. It slides across surfaces, dissolves, reappears, and multiplies.

Dancers trace invisible trajectories through space, curving with the spine, fracturing at joints, spiralling through rolling weight transfers. The geometry is relational: angles are felt, not measured; pathways are discovered rather than planned.

In Contact Improvisation, dancers do not fight gravity, they converse with it. Falling becomes a method of travel. Yielding becomes a source of strength. Verticality and horizontality are not opposites but phases of a continuum. A lift is less an act of elevation than a redirection of force, a temporary agreement between bodies and the earth.

“Geometry of Sensing Bodies” names a practice where structure is alive and perception is creative. Bodies are not objects moving through space, but fields of sensation shaping space as they move. Its geometry is written in pressure and release, in trust and risk, in the continuous drawing and redrawing of relationship. To witness or practice it is to see thinking made physical and to feel geometry breathe.
