Gold Coast Hindu Cultural Association cordially invite you and your family to celebrate the Harvest Festival PONGAL 2026 /Makar Sankranti/Bihu/Lohri at the Gold Coast Hindu Cultural Association Murugan Temple on Sunday the 18th January 2026.


Pongal : A four-day harvest festival and it is an important part of Tamil Culture and tradition where we respect Mother Nature and Farmers and celebrate Pongal Festival. Traditional Pongal is cooked on an open fire in a clay pot and served to all attendees.


Makar Sankranti (Uttarayana):  marks the transition of the Sun from the zodiac of Sagittarius to Capricorn (Makara rashi). It is celebrated with kite flying, and eating sesame/jaggery sweets.


Lohri : Celebrated in Punjab and North India, this festival involves bonfires, dancing, and singing to mark the harvest of rabi crops.


Magh Bihu / Bhogali Bihu: Assam's harvest festival featuring community feasts, bonfires, and traditional games.
