GATHER: Gathered and Gatherings Exhibition (PS)
Basketry SA Inc. Biennial Exhibition
Exhibition Opening
Friday 17 April at 6 pm
Opening Speaker: Dr Kate Delaporte, Curator, Waite Arboretum and Conservation Reserve, Adelaide University
The basket weavers draw inspiration from many sources, gathering ideas, fibres, and techniques both individually and through group workshops. They create traditional and contemporary basketry, sharing skills and learning from one another, often drawing on diverse ethnic and indigenous methods. Their work spans practical pieces to sculptural forms.
This exhibition celebrates the evolution of basketry in South Australia, inviting visitors to explore their curiosity and the creative spirit of this enduring craft.
Trading Table on Saturday afternoons
In addition to the main Basketry SA Inc. exhibition their will be trading table displays on Saturday afternoons. The smaller display represents both functional and decorative vessels on a domestic scale with fibres sourced mostly from local gardens. Visitors will have the additional opportunity to purchase directly from the table.
Exhibition concludes on Friday 22 May at 4 pm.
