Description

Responding to Problem Gambling Issues in Financial Counselling - SAFCA AISR collaboration 2019

A one-day program for financial counsellors working with clients who have gambling problems or are affected by problem gambling, such as family members.

Pre-participation REQUIREMENT

In preparation for the one-day training program you are required to have completed the self-paced online program Orientation to the South Australian Gambling Sector

This self-paced program covers

  • Gambling and “problem” gambling in Australia and South Australia,
  • Impacts of gambling harm to individuals and families,
  • Key stakeholders and their roles,
  • Recognising gambling-related harm and the importance of screening,
  • Responding to people experiencing problems in venues and services,
  • Recovering from gambling harm.

While this online program has a specific focus on South Australia the impact of gambling and how to respond are universal. Specific issues of gambling within the Northern Territory will be explored in the one-day program.

The one-day FACE to FACE program

This program will

increase knowledge of problem gambling, and understanding of its impact on those who gamble and their families,

give information and tools needed to identify and support people with gambling problems,

give strategies to explore concerns about gambling and to prompt clients to take appropriate action,

increase knowledge of community supports and services that are available to people with gambling problems.

OPTIONAL Formal assessment CHCSS00111 Problem Gambling Skill Set

Participants, post completion of the self-paced online program and participation in the one-day program, may wish to attain the CHCSS00111 Problem Gambling Skill Set. This skill set reflects the skill requirements for individuals who work with clients affected by gambling and is for people seeking to broaden their existing skills to include problem gambling work.

There are two possible pathways to achieve this skill set, recognition of prior learning (RPL) or Completion of an accredited learning and assessment program.

1. RPL – this requires you to gather and submit examples of your work that meets the evidence requirements of the CHCSS00111 Problem Gambling Skill Set. - Cost $850.00 (to be covered by the Participant or their Agency Not SAFCA).

2. Accredited learning and assessment program - Cost $1880.00 (to be covered by the Participant or their Agency Not SAFCA).
