Event description

Description

Ensemble Density in collaboration with The Grainger Museum present a music workshop inspired by Keith Humble. Humble referred to his musical works as frozen improvisations because he regarded composition as an evolving creative process and exchange of ideas rather than the making of a finished product. In Saturday morning workshops at the Grainger Museum in the mid-1960s, he guided young people to improvise with voices, instruments and objects, and recordings of these sessions often formed the sonic building blocks for other pieces. Workshops

Following in the footsteps of Keith Humble, artistic director of Ensemble Density Charles MacInnes, presents this workshop, one of three, exploring Humble’s work at the Grainger Museum. Participants will also create their own improvised music, and the recorded results will be used in a performance of Humble’s Music for Monuments by Ensemble Density at the Melbourne Recital Centre.

Hosted by Ensemble Density director Charles MacInnes, percussionist Peter Neville, trumpeter and composer Barry McKimm, and guests.
