Event description
The capital’s much loved open-air free Shakespeare season returns in 2022 with the delightful comedy As You Like It directed by Tony Knight

About this event

Lakespeare is delighted to be partnering again with Kambri at ANU to bring our free summer season of Shakespeare to the Kambri outdoor amphitheatre for the whole family to enjoy.

Shakespeare by the Lakes IV: As You Like It will delight audiences around the Capital Region this summer. Directed by Tony Knight, NIDA’s previous Head of Acting, this much-loved comedy features mistaken identities, bad poetry (from characters, not the author!), wandering jesters and enchanted forests.

Lakespeare is an independent theatre company on a mission to make high-quality theatre accessible to Canberrans and beyond. Visit our webpage closer to show time for more information about the show, the cast and what we do. And don't forget to follow us on Facebook or Instagram.

Our summer season always involves as many free outdoor shows as we can afford to put on. Sales from ticketed events partially fund these, but crowd-sourced donations also help make this possible. Follow this link if you'd like to help out by donating.

ACT Public Health Guidelines in place at the time around the management of COVID-will apply, including sign in with the Check-in CBR app. More detail will be provided closer to the show.

What can I bring into the event?

Bring a picnic or pick up some sumptuous food on campus. It will be best to bring a blanket or cushion to sit on the amphitheatre steps so as many people as possible can fit in. Underground free parking is only a couple of hundred metres away (see below).

Show information

1. SBTL is an outdoor event and we all must adapt to the weather conditions. Unless there is torrential rain or strong winds that are a threat to people or equipment, the show goes on. We invite our audience to enter into the joy and fun of what nature might bring and be open to a variety of experiences. There is no such thing as bad weather, there is only the wrong clothes.

2. Chairs are only allowed in designated areas. So everyone can see, chairs will necessarily be set back from the main amphitheatre.

3. So everyone can see, umbrellas are not to be used during the performance. Patrons should use hooded rain jackets or ponchos.

4. Lakespeare reserves the right to add or remove performances, change venues and/or alter the start times of events. Of course, we only do this for good reasons and give you as much warning as possible.

This venue accommodates approximately 350 on the steps and has standing & chair room for at least another 200. There are no bad views.

Being a free event, we get a lot of interest but not everyone shows up. General admission ticket holders will have priority access to the amphitheatre before 4pm while after this time RESERVE B ticket holders will have the opportunity to find a spot in the amphitheatre.

Stewards will fill the seated amphitheatre area with printed ticket holders (or electronic) up until 5:45pm. Should there be any remaining seated places these will be allocated to the general public on a first-in, first-served basis.

This ticket/seating arrangement is in place because this venue has limited seating and we wish for our audiences to have as pleasant an experience as possible.

Free underground parking is available for up to 3 hours on weekends - enter off Kingsley St.
