Casual gathering to make chains/jewellery for our respirator masks and/or decorate them in other ways!

Casual workshop for making mask chains and/or adding other decorations to our (respirator) masks for the Covid Conscious community in Sydney. Mask chain supplies and water-free tattoos for decorating will be provided as well as spare N95 and KN95 masks.

Please read the requirements for attendance further down below the event info - these are to keep the event as safe and accessible for as many people as possible :)

Event info:

When: 1.00pm-4.00pm, Sat 7th March 2026.

Where: Darlington Activity Centre, 132-134 Shepherd St, Darlington NSW. Please enter via Shepherd St rather than Ivy St (gate and doors will be open)

Bring: Any masks you'd like to decorate, but plenty will also be provided. Optionally: if you have any thin pliers and/or wire cutters for the chains, that would be great to have extras! Can also bring any beads/charms/pieces of jewellery you might like to add to chains, fabric you might like to make covers with, or anything else you'd like to decorate masks with.

Transport/parking:

  • Approx 7 min walk from Redfern train station (600 metres away)
  • 5-8 min walk from buses on City Rd/King St
  • No onsite parking, but there's time-restricted street parking and a paid parking station very close by (Shepherd Street Carpark - multi-storey, $4/hour)
  • 2 mobility parking spaces within 100 metres at 108-118 Shepherd St.

Accessibility & venue info:

  • All one floor with no stairs, has level access entrance
  • Accessible toilet. Note: the bathrooms each have an automatic air freshener which will be turned off just after 12.30pm, and air purifiers will be put in the bathrooms to try to remove as much lingering scent as possible.
  • 2 mobility parking spaces within 100m at 108-118 Shepherd St
  • Doors open and multiple air purifiers on
  • Will have CO2 monitor
  • 3 air conditioning units in the main room will be on if it's warm (though with doors open they may not cool super efficiently) and AC also available in one of the side rooms
  • Plastic folding chairs for seating - a few cushions and blankets will be brought if extra cushioning is needed (note these will be lint rolled but may have traces of cat hair on them)
  • Some smaller attached rooms for quiet/private space if needed
  • Small outside space with benches (benches not completely accessible for wheelchairs to get to), chairs, water dispenser and cups available
  • Kitchenette with fridge and microwave if needed
  • Wi-Fi available
  • Pets not allowed by the venue but service/assistance animals of course welcome

Requirements of attendance - please only attend if you agree to the below:

  1. Respirator masks (KF94, KN95, N95, P2 or better, not cloth or surgical masks) required to be worn at all times. There'll be water available in a space outside the building that you can go to if you need to remove your mask to have a drink etc.
  2. Negative covid RAT (or better if you have access to Pluslife etc) taken less than12 hours before the event (even without symptoms, since asymptomatic infection is a thing).
  3. No current respiratory symptoms (even with negative tests), and haven't been in close/unmasked contact with anyone who has any symptoms in the last 3 days.
  4. Haven't engaged in any high risk unmasked activities in the last 3 days eg dining indoors, plane travel, being unmasked at a big event
  5. Please don't wear perfume/cologne/strong spray deodorant or other highly scented things, so as not to affect those with fragrance sensitivies. Note: the bathrooms each have an automatic air freshener which will be turned off just after 12.30pm, and air purifiers will be put in the bathrooms to try to remove as much lingering scent as possible.
  6. No bigoted language/behaviour of any kind tolerated e.g. homophobia, transphobia, whorephobia, ableism, racism, sexism, fatphobia.
