Learn new skills + discover global best practice and solutions to some of the world's most wicked environmental problems + the Forest/Agricultural jobs of the future in this one day PD for Primary and Secondardy Science, Geography and Sustainability Teachers.
Join Gould League General Manager Anne-Maree McInerney, a highly regarded global sustainability advisor who will lead a Teacher Professional Development Day in the forest. She will provide insight into global challenges and solutions to some our most wicked problems including failing ecosystems, species extinction, food security, waste management, and climate change. This innovative approach to real-world learning offers a glimpse into the future of education, sharing global best practice to build resilience, create jobs, reverse eco-anxiety and contribute positively to society and the environment.
The day will also feature
- A first hand experience of Toolangi State Forest and it's ecosystem services. You can discover how these forests are crucial for Melbourne's water health, carbon capture, and species protection.
- A discussion on the importance of immersion in nature for students to improve health and wellbeing, social skills and behaviour, encourage better attendance, and teamwork.
- An introduction to the Blue Economy which involves adopting a circular economy model that drives systemic change and zero waste. It has the potential to promote sustainable growth and productivity across all segments of society, with game-changing innovations that address environmental issues.
You will also discover the animals of the forest and how they are adapting to survive and thrive; How to measure carbon in a tree; How to measure and assess fuel hazards in the forest and; How to undertake plant transects to measure change over time and biodiversity.
