Event description

Description

Foxes are one of the top predators threatening the survival of native wildlife and have been estimated to cause over $227 million damage to Australia’s agricultural industries. Learn about the best practice management methods available for foxes and rabbits in peri urban areas.

Experienced fox trapper and wildlife advocate Alice McGlashan will share her knowledge of fox trapping. There will be a demonstration of how to use wildlife cameras, humane traps and other equipment. There will also be a discussion on how to manage animals after you trap them. Getting to know the patterns of your night time visitors is integral to the success of fox management as is working with your neighbours.

Nicky Clarke and Phil McGrath from the South East Local Land Services Biosecurity team in Braidwood will talk about the legislative framework for managing foxes and rabbits. They will also cover the practical support that the Local Land Services can provide to landowners wanting to manage feral animals. This includes the Feral Fighters Program, how to get training and who to contact if you and your neighbours want to undertake a coordinated program.

Management options for rabbits including trapping, Calici Virus, 1080, Pindone and harbour destruction will be discussed. Nicky Clark will also talk about feral pigs and the brucellosis testing program that landholders can get involved with.
