About this event

About Family Spirit

Our services include support aimed at helping keep families together, with all forms of foster care (short-term, respite, kinship and long-term) as well as adoption and guardianship services. We also provide ongoing support and services to young people who are transitioning from care to living independently.

About Foster Care

The rewards of being a foster carer are many and varied. Family Spirit carers tell us that being a carer is a joyous and fulfilling experience and say that one of their greatest joys is being able to play a part in the achievements of the children in their care.

Could you and your family provide this care? Types of care:

- Immediate care of a child for a few days, often at short notice

- Respite care for a few days or regular weekends to provide respite for long-term carers

- Short-term care from a few months’ duration to two years until a child can safely return to their birth family home, or is placed with a long-term carer

- Long-term care which may be until a child reaches 18 years or is adopted from foster care

- Kinship care where children are looked after by a relative when they cannot remain at home

Family Spirit provides training, 24-hour support and a fortnightly allowance.

Foster Care Criteria

We ask that carers fulfil certain criteria which we assess on an individual case-by-case basis. Our Frequently Asked Questions will help you decide if you could become a foster carer.
