Event description

Description

Have you ever wondered how to dye your clothes using just flowers and leaves? How to use eucalypts to create rich earthy tones and textures? In this playfully inspiring two hour workshop for Sydney Craft Week, you’ll learn how to use found flora, herbs and everyday food scraps to naturally dye fabric.

Both accessible and sustainable, this introduction to bundle dyeing will show you all the basics you need to know so that you can continue to hone your craft at home. Never let another onion peel or droopy flower go to waste!

What you’ll learn:

- What to look for when foraging for plants and flowers in your backyard (or your neighbours!)
- How to prepare silk and other fabrics for dyeing
- How to extract dye from natural substances
- Natural dye techniques including colour, pattern and digital notes
- How to colourfast your creations

What you’ll get:

- A selection of leaves, flowers, herbs and food to make your dyes
- A pure silk scarf to dye and take home (45cm x 160cm)

What to bring:

- Any additional foraged materials you’d like to experiment with
- A t-shirt or singlet in case you’re a quick learner and want to try another piece! Natural and pre-washed fabrics only; cotton, hemp or linen.

Tickets:

$90+bf
