Event Details

This is a professional learning session to support improving VCE student outcomes and develop a VCE network for schools.  Please register individually for the event.  If you have special dietary requirements please email these to the organiser by 23 February.  We are trying to make more places available - this will be updated as soon as we can confirm.

Focus on VCE – Invitation to share best practice to improve outcomes for VCE students

To support our secondary schools in their ongoing efforts to improve VCE outcomes, we are offering VCE Co-ordinators the opportunity to attend a professional learning session to consider best practice in VCE processes, data analysis and planning for learning.

This introductory professional learning session will offer participants an insight into how Nossal High School, a selective entry school, approaches maintains and seeks to improve their VCE outcomes.  We will also have a facilitated discussion of  what is currently working (good practice) in our Inner and Outer East schools.  As this is an introductory day, the initial subject focus will be on English (schools are welcome to send both a VCE and an English Coordinator).

The program for the day will include:

  • A presentation by Nossal High School on their particular approach to maintaining and improving VCE outcomes (processes, procedures and subject approaches)
  • Tour of the school to highlight approaches in action
  • Identifying areas for improvement – data analysis and school improvement culture

There will also be a session on:

  • Developing a VCE improvement plan for schools
  • Sharing best practice – schools are requested to bring examples (or access to soft copy examples) of documentation, procedures and approaches that they have found to be successful in their schools or have supported improved outcomes
  • Networking for VCE coordinators (possibly Area based)
  • Establishment of a VCE online community for Inner and Outer schools (self-managed)
  • dentifying needs for further support in the VCE sector

Attendees are asked to stay for the whole session.

Please bring (possibly to share) any documentation, procedures or approaches that have improved outcomes at your school (bring your laptop?)   We are hoping to explore and share best practice.

Please contact Tricia O'Hara (ohara.patricia.p@edumail.vic.gov.au) or Isobel McLennan (mclennan.isobel.j@edumail.vic.gov.au)  for further information.  We do appreciate many of you may be travelling quite a distance.  However, so we can have a prompt start, please aim to arrive at Nossal HS Reception at least 15 minutes ahead of the start time to allow time to sign in.
