Finding Prometheus

Finding Prometheus is an exploration of dramatic devising techniques and performance skills for young people using Greek mythology as a springboard to foster imagination, creativity and confidence.

The one-day workshop is proudly supported by Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney and will be facilitated by Phaedra Nicolaidis & Sean Hall for young people aged 10+ years.

The workshop will introduce the ancient Greek stories of Prometheus and, through drama and ancient artefacts from the museum’s collection, illuminate their universal relevance to today's society.

We aim to give young people a chance to rediscover the foundation of Greek culture through storytelling and theatre practice.

This one-day skills-based interactive theatre workshop for young people will conclude with a showing of the Finding Prometheus devised work at the end of the day for friends and family.

Please note the doors of the museum do not open until 10am.

Our Facilitators

Phaedra Nicolaidis

Phaedra is a 2004 NIDA Acting graduate whose film and television credits include productions for Channel 10, ABC and SBS. Her most recent stage appearance was in Enda Walsh’s Arlington at the Seymour Centre in 2024. Following her theatre training, she studied psychology at UNSW before returning to her ancestral home in Greece, where she lived for several years, revelling in the country’s abundant and deeply rooted theatre culture. Alongside her performance practice, Phaedra works as a teaching artist with adults and children across a wide range of contexts, including NIDA, mainstream schools and educational settings serving disadvantaged communities. She holds a Master of Education and believes strongly in the power of the arts to positively transform society.

Sean Hall

After graduating from NIDA with a Bachelor of Acting, Sean has performed in theatre, film, and television. His screen credits include The Illusionist, Australia, The Road from Coorain, Pulse, and Drop Dead Weird. For the stage, Sean has performed in productions with the Sydney Theatre Company, Ensemble Theatre, Pinchgut Opera, Hayes Theatre Company, The Old Fitz, The Australian Shakespeare Company and has appeared in festival productions for UNESCO, Spectrum Now and Sydney Festival. Sean has also written and directed for stage and screen with his short film Hollow Hands receiving official selection at international film festivals. In 2023, Sean joined Empress Theatre as an artistic associate, working on the development of the new work Living and the critically acclaimed productions of Martin McDonagh’s The Lonesome West and Enda Walsh’s Arlington. Sean appeared in the critically acclaimed Stan Original series Critical Incident.
