Summary: Set in 1926, Early Spring follows Xiao Jianqiu (Sun Daolin), a young intellectual who travels to a small town in eastern Zhejiang to teach at a middle school, at the invitation of his old classmate Tao Mukan (Gao Bo). During the boat journey, Xiao encounters Mrs Wen (Shangguan Yunzhu), a widow whose husband was killed in the Guangzhou Uprising, and is deeply moved by her hardship.

At a welcoming family dinner hosted by Tao Mukan, Xiao meets Tao’s younger sister Tao Lan (Xie Fang), an open-hearted and spirited young woman. Through conversation, Xiao discovers that the widow he met on the boat is in fact the wife of his former classmate Li Zhihao. Guided by a strong sense of moral responsibility and compassion, Xiao begins to offer regular assistance to Mrs Wen and her child—an act that soon becomes the subject of local gossip.

While Xiao’s integrity and kindness draw Tao Lan closer to him, he finds himself caught in an emotional and ethical dilemma. Torn between his growing love for Tao Lan and his deep sympathy for Mrs Wen’s desperate situation, Xiao ultimately decides to marry the widow, believing it to be a moral obligation rather than a romantic choice. Tao Lan is devastated, accusing him of confusing compassion with love.

The conflict intensifies when Qian Zhengxing (Wang Pei), who has long harbored feelings for Tao Lan, visits Xiao and offers to financially support his marriage to Mrs Wen—on the condition that Xiao gives up Tao Lan. Outraged by this proposition, Xiao reacts with righteous anger, bringing the story to its emotional climax.

剧情简介

1926年，青年知识分子肖涧秋（孙道临 饰）应老同学陶慕侃（高博 饰）之邀，来到浙东小镇中学任教。在前往赴教的轮船上他遇到了丈夫死于广州起义的文嫂（上官云珠 饰），顿生同情之心。在陶慕侃为其举行的欢迎家宴上，他认识了陶的妹妹，活泼大方的陶岚（谢芳 饰）。交谈中方知在轮船上遇到的孤儿寡母竟是老同学李志浩的家小。出于正义和同情，肖涧秋经常资助造访文嫂家，这引起了周围人议论。而肖的正义品格却赢得了陶岚的爱慕，此时的肖涧秋陷入了巨大矛盾之中。他爱陶岚，更同情饥寒交迫的文嫂一家，考虑再三他决定娶文嫂为妻。陶岚无比震惊，指责他这不是爱情是因为同情。此时，一直暗恋陶岚的钱正兴（王培 饰）来到肖的宿舍，表示愿意出钱资助他与文嫂结婚，并希望他把陶岚让给自己。肖涧秋闻言怒不可遏......
