Short Street Kitchen

A gut-loving, hands-on, informative and fun day out

Fermented foods, rich in probiotics and nutrients, perfectly supports our gut health and immunity. Fermenting is incredibly inexpensive, satisfying and easy to do at home.Fermentation is simply amazing and this age old process is now receiving renewed interest as we celebrate all of the benefits that consuming fermented foods has to offer. These real and living foods are the perfect antidote to the sterilised and ultra-processed products that dominate the food environment today. The aim of this workshop is to get really confident with the general concepts and process of wild lacto-fermentation with a focus on sauerkraut. Rather than packing in heaps of different ferments in one workshop and overwhelming you, we have found that mastering this first step provides the knowledge and confidence to go on and experiment with other ferments in the future - trust us on this!Included in this messy and hands-on workshop:

An introduction to fermentation, including the history and health benefits

An introduction to the gut microbiome and the role that fermented foods play

A step by step process of wild fermentation to leave you inspired and confident to start fermenting on your own at home

Demonstration of various fermenting equipment (however, please know that you do not need any fancy equipment to get started)

Get your hands stuck into making your own jars of sauerkraut to take home. You will do the entire process from start to finish (twice!) and make two 1L jars to take home flavoured to your liking.

To break up the kraut making, we will also share another favourite ferment of our - fermented garlic cloves and a garlic paste.

Tea, coffee and afternoon tea

Printed notes and recipes.

Please bring an apron if you have one and a bag or box to take your jars of kraut home.FAQsWhat's the refund policy?Cancellation by you: We are unfortunately unable to offer refunds within ten (10) days of the workshops date.
