Join Tablelands Farming Systems for a practical day focused on making the most of lambs and available feed through variable seasonal conditions. We’ll look at the decisions producers face as pasture supply changes — from managing feed gaps and supplementary feeding through to intensive finishing.
Nick Linden from Agriculture Victoria will take us through the practicalities of intensive lamb finishing, including induction, managing the feedlot environment, ration formulation and maximising lamb performance. Nick will also explore the role of genetics and why not all lambs respond to feed in the same way. He’ll demonstrate a practical ration formulation spreadsheet that producers can use to compare feed ingredients and build cost-effective rations.
Matt Lieschke from South East Local Land Services will look at the decisions around destocking and restocking breeding ewes as seasonal conditions change and what factors influence these decisions.
