Mardi Gras, which is French for “Fat Tuesday,” celebrates the last day of the “Carnival” season in New Orleans – an audacious and bodacious orgy of merrymaking, parades, feasting, and dancing. Mardi Gras is traditionally the last chance for Catholics to engage in debauchery of any type before Lent in the lead up to Easter, but it has been adopted by the entire city’s population as a shared joyous cultural event. Now it's Melbourne's chance to do the same.
9 February, 4-10pm, Piazza Italia, Argyle Street, Carlton.
