Draw Along returns during 'Fairy Tales'!

In a dramatic drawing workshop led by Dr Bill Platz, you’ll learn how to use simple materials to create your own weird world in a dark theatre. Delve into the realms of storytelling, layering, and the captivating interplay of shadow and light to bring your drawing to life.


Ticket includes all materials. The Draw Along workshop involves live models with partial nudity in the tradition of life drawing. The workshop is designed for all skill levels. ‘Fairy Tales’ exhibition open until 6.30pm. Last timed-entry session 5.30pm - purchase your timed-entry ticket online. Box Office open to purchase snacks and drinks.

A valid Draw Along event ticket is required for this event. Note: Complimentary ‘Fairy Tales’ exhibition tickets or QAGOMA Members free ticket vouchers cannot be redeemed for this event.

We accept Companion Cards. A Companion Card is issued by the Queensland Government, for those with a disability and need for attendant care support. The ‘Companion’ ticket type is only valid for your companion to gain complimentary entry. A General Admission or QAGOMA Member ticket is required for the Companion Card holder to access this event. A valid companion card number is required to be supplied upon booking.

Participation and content

  • You are welcome to come with a friend or by yourself. Many people attend the Gallery solo.
  • The Draw Along workshop features a live classical guitarist and a life model with partial nudity in the tradition of life drawing.
  • All materials will be provided. If you would like to bring your own drawing materials, you are welcome to make sketches with graphite pencils and handheld sketchbooks. Please note, as per QAGOMA Conditions of Entry, only graphite pencils can be brought in to the Gallery
  • No experience is required. The session is appropriate for both beginner and advanced practitioners / levels of arts knowledge, you’ll be guided by our expert facilitator – who is there to support you.
  • This event will be recorded and released on QAGOMA YouTube.
  • We ask all attendees to be kind, respectful, and courteous to all participants, speakers and staff at this event. This program will be monitored by QAGOMA staff to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, speakers and staff.

Sensory aspects and Access

  • Speakers will use an amplified microphone.
  • Background music will be played during the event.
  • Hearing loops available. Please let us know in advance if you are hard of hearing so we can make this tour accessible for you.
  • A screen/projection will be used during the event.
  • This event will be held in Cinema A, which is a 220 seat theatre space, the lights will be turned down on the audience during the event. You can leave the space at any time and re-enter the event.
  • The Gallery air conditioning is set to 21°C to conserve the artworks.
  • This event will be photographed/filmed by QAGOMA staff. If you do not wish to be photographed/filmed, please advise a QAGOMA staff member on arrival.
