About this event

Expressive Art Group - February - Making New Patterns

Fun and therapeutic art group.

Support, discovery, and relaxation.

Art-making on Friday mornings.

Working in mother- daughter pairs each week we will slow down and take time to be with each other. We will playfully work with representational forms, symbol, and totems to make portraits. Seeing and being seen. A beautiful gift that lifts your relationship out of the everyday and into a space that celebrates who you are, who they are, and who you are to each other.

Who: Adult mother daughter pairs especially beautiful for people transitioning life stages, roles, gender or simply looking to enhance their relationship.

Method: Guided meditation – costume/object and sitting, collage, paint, pencil or favourite medium

Workshops are held a home studio space in Tweed Heads West. The street address will be provided upon purchase. All art materials are provided, and group members are welcome to bring their own materials too. Groups are generally capped at 6 people and it's an actively inclusive space, so please speak openly about your needs. The studio is accessed via external steps, and sloped drive which sadly may be a barrier for some.

Express yourself through colors, shapes, and textures as you connect with fellow explorers. This event is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, find and offer support, and gain inspiration from others.

Frequently asked questions

How does art therapy actually work?

For some mindfully creating art each week is enough to restore balance. More deeply it's about exploring images and symbols that are subconsciously at play. Through discussing our creations we can open up about our personal issues through metaphor. The art is a unique window into the artist. You!

Can I book in to do less than four sessions?

You will benefit from attending all the sessions. Each monthly block is designed to explore the theme from a different approach each week. If you miss one you will still benefit from the following weeks, so no worries just come along the next week. Refunds and credits are not available, sorry.

What if I'm really crap at art?

This is excellent. You'll make the rest of the group feel much better about their art. Joking!! There really isn't a right or wrong way to express yourself. Learning how to access your inner creative space and express that on the page is exciting, surprising and fun.

How "therapeutic" is it? Will I have to talk about my problems?

Playful and healing. We reflect privately on the theme, then are guided through a meditation. Next, we create our artworks, then we reflect. We support and encourage each other. The art is the primary mode of expression, but if you would like to share with the group, there's space for that too.

Do you have a cat called Wesley Stripes?

Yes. Working from my home studio means that Wesley may visit us from time to time. Please do let me know if you have a cat allergy, and I'll limit his range. :)
