About this event

Remains of old stone walling indicate the track as it winds through blue gum and grey gum forests. We hear stories of the characters of the area - Granny Wallbank who walked the 48kms across three ranges and two gullies carrying a baby on her hip and the fate of Owen Maloney who drowned while attempting to cross Popran Creek in a flood.

The original homestead built in 1832 by the McDonald brothers is made of sandstone and is the oldest intact standing house on the Central Coast. Edward and Hannah Kelly lived there for 45 years and raised ten children at a time when Glenworth Valley was a hive of activity. Learn more about the Kellys who bred horses from the British army in India and experimented with goat farming.

Enjoy learning more about the surrounding flora and fauna along the way. A local magistrate noted the runaways, squatters and itinerant timber getters 'embezzling off the Crown lands' by cutting down hardwood and other timber (including the enormous red cedars), splitting shingles, collecting wattle bark and burning mangrove for ash.
