Exotic Gardens: Watercolour Simplicity with Annette Raff (2 Days)

Course Description

Suitable for all levels of watercolour experience

Say goodbye to wishy-washy, overworked watercolours and welcome this stylised approach delivering more predictable outcomes, featuring simplicity and design, contributing to a modern visual appeal.

About the Workshop

Annette will supply you with photographic references, while encouraging individual interpretations of the subject. You will learn what negative painting is and how it can build depth and mystery in your paintings. You will have the chance to build skills as you paint.

· Day 1. You will learn the art of simplifying intricate garden scenes by consolidating details into robust shapes, interlocking them to compose your painting, akin to assembling a puzzle. The drawing will be transferred to your watercolour paper in preparation for day 2. Additionally, Annette will spend time demonstrating her way of applying transparent washes within a single plant shape resulting in beautiful nuances of colour and crisp, clean edges. You will have ample time to practice these techniques.

· Day 2. You will begin painting your exotic garden of delights. This approach lets you paint one segment at a time, allowing for a serene progression without the anxiety of errors commonly associated with traditional, detailed watercolour techniques that emphasize realism. Enjoy this relaxed approach as you continue painting and watching your garden grow!

"Exotic Gardens" is a two day weekend workshop, running on Saturday and Sunday 9:30am to 4:30pm each day

About the Tutor: Annette Raff

Annette has been teaching workshops in painting and drawing for the past 26 years. Along with her love of teaching art, she enjoys developing her own art practice and exploring new ways of using watercolour mediums and mixed media. Annette holds a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art and an Advanced Certificate in Art and Design.

She is passionate about helping others to discover the joys of creating art and believes in allowing time for student practice and exploration. Annette's artworks typically centre on capturing the core of a subject, often involving the disassembly of visual elements, all the while maintaining an illusion of realism and intricate complexity.

MyArt Studio Booking & Cancellation Policy

Location

The entrance to the classroom is found at 16 Duggan Street, Toowoomba CBD. The classroom will be opened 15 minutes prior to commencement of the class. Tea and coffee facilities are provided, and students have access to the kitchenette and toilet facilities.

Parking

No parking facilities are provided. Street parking in the Toowoomba CBD is at your own expense. Council car parks with 3+ hour zones are available on Annand Street, Water Street, or Station Street. We advise always reading the parking signage for the day and time period you require to avoid fines. Classes with outdoor activities are attended at your own risk.

Materials

Materials are not included in the ticket price. Students are responsible for their own art materials unless otherwise stated. A materials list will be provided by Murray's Art and Framing listing each item that is required for the workshop. It is expected by the tutor that each student will arrive prepared with the required materials. If you have any questions about your materials list, please get in touch with the team at Murray’s Art & Framing.

Fees

Ticket prices ensure that we can provide professional art tutors. Each ticket covers the total duration of the event for one student to attend. Fees do not include art materials. Please book into a workshop at least one month prior to its commencement if possible. This will secure your spot in the class and allow us to confirm tutor bookings. If there are insufficient tickets booked, workshops may be cancelled.

Cancellation of enrolment by you

If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop up to one month before its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee. The remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will be refunded. If you choose to withdraw from a course or workshop within 1 month of its commencement, you will be charged a $25 administration fee and the remainder (minus Eventbrite fees) will only be refunded if the position can be filled.

Missed Classes

Once a workshop has commenced there are no refunds. MyArt Studio cannot accept responsibility for changes to students' personal circumstances that prevent attendance. Classes missed are the student’s responsibility and are non-refundable. Students are not entitled to a discount or ‘make-up’ class if they miss a class for any course, they are enrolled in.

Cancellations of workshops by us

In the event of a class being cancelled due to insufficient enrolments, a full refund will be given.
