Event description
An exhibition of new works by artists of Aboriginal heritage with a connection to western Sydney, responding to the theme of climate change

About this Event

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone and Councillors have the pleasure of inviting you, your family and friends to the official opening launch of

SOLASTALGIA: Mawa Ngurra

FAIRFIELD CITY MUSEUM & GALLERY

SATURDAY 14 MARCH 2020 2pm-4pm

Bringing together Aboriginal artists from western Sydney and the Blue Mountains, this group exhibition examines the impact of climate change from the perspective of First Nations people. The term 'solastalgia' is used by scientists and academics to describe a nostalgic sense of homesickness for a landscape that is slipping from one's grasp. 'Mawa Ngurra' is a Darug term meaning 'holding on to Country' and aptly captures the sensibility of this current and global issue.

Join us for a celebration of this very special exhibition in conjunction with 'KULi', a display of art and cultural objects by Pasifika Artists.
