EXHIBITION | Carlos Barrios 'Heart Songs'

EXHIBITION | Carlos Barrios 'Heart Songs'

Overview

Queensland-based artist Carlos Barrios returns to Mitchell Fine Art with his solo exhibition, 'Heart Songs', showing 10 Feb - 7 Mar.

This exhibition brings together a collection of artworks spanning decades of Carlos Barrios’ practice that are a combination of his primal relationship to art-making.

Expressed as his “heart’s songs”, the works characterise Barrios’ creative practice through invocations of love, soulfulness and melancholy.

Raised in El Salvador, Central America and the son of an archaeologist, Barrios was introduced to the art and artefacts of ancient cultures at a young age. This vital and transportive force felt when observing these artefacts and sites informs Barrios’ life-affirming outlooks, which are held strong despite witnessing atrocities during the decade-long Salvadorian civil war.

Creating art is a reflexive and indispensable element of living itself for Barrios. Through a heartfelt display, Barrios hopes to share this transformative capacity of art and life.

An opening event will be held on Friday 13 February, 6 – 8pm with Carlos Barrios in attendance.
**All events are free, RSVPs not required.

Mitchell Fine Art is open 6 days a week; Mon - Fri 10:00am - 5:30pm, Sat 10:00am - 5:00pm, with onsite parking available. The gallery is fully wheelchair accessible.
