EQUALIZE is a free, practical one-day workshop for women and gender diverse* musicians and producers. Taking place across Australia in September and October, participants will hone and develop their songwriting and live audio skills in a supportive, inclusive and open environment. Each of the skill development sessions will take place in small groups, facilitated by women and gender-diverse experts in their field.*APRA AMCOS recognises that ‘gender diverse’ embodies a variety of ways people experience gender, including non-binary, trans, gender non-conforming, other non-cis male gender expressions and more. Above all, APRA AMCOS believes that the EQUALIZE workshops should be an inclusive, safe and caring creative environment for all participants.FACILITATORS: Romy Vager, Merpire, Alex Mraz and Sarah MadiganAbout Romy Vager:As lead singer and songwriter of RVG, Romy Vager has proven time and again that she is one of the most highly regarded Australian songwriters on the world stage. From years of touring throughout the US, UK and Europe, Romy has enchanted audiences and created a dedicated international fanbase. RVG have become the band of choice to act as main support for innumerable international acts, including Pixies, Billy Nomates and Kurt Vile, which has allowed Romy to connect with audiences across the world.About Merpire:Merpire is the moniker of Naarm/Melbourne-based, Rhiannon Atkinson-Howatt, whose catchy dark-pop anthems heal even the most stoic crowd. Merpire has spent the last few years since her debut Simulation Ride (ADA Records) reclaiming her body, her joy and with the help of true community and time to herself to explore the multi-instrumentalist that she is, Merpire is ready to share what she’s found with others who could use the physical release. Her ARIA-charting second record, MILK POOL boasts contributions from producers James Seymour, James Dring (Sorry, Soccer Mommy), Elizabeth M. Drummond and was mixed by Ali Chant (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, Perfume Genius). Their key involvement in helping to bring to life Merpire's vision has left us all with the gift she intended on giving - an undeniable second record.About Alex Mraz:Alex is a Melbourne-based audio engineer who specialises in live sound, working across iconic local venues and festivals including Corner Hotel, Max Watts, Northcote Social Club, Pitch Music &amp; Arts, Strawberry Fields, and Rising. She also works at Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS), where her passion for audio extends into synthesis, sound design, and creative exploration.With experience spanning stage management, corporate A/V, field recording, production management and sound design, Alex is passionate about making the technical side of music more accessible and promoting diversity within the audio industry. She believes in empowering artists—particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds—with the knowledge and confidence to take control of their sound. This is Alex's second year presenting at Equalize. About Sarah Madigan: Working in the music industry since 2008, Sarah has built an illustrious career as one of Australia’s most respected freelance touring professionals. She is predominantly an audio engineer, specialising in IEM monitor mixing, but has extensive experience in all aspects of touring; from tour management to production management and of course, FOH. For the last 10 years, Sarah has been fortunate enough to tour full time with a range of artists including; Thelma Plum, Sarah Blasko, Baker Boy, Karnivool, Jem Cassar-Daley and Glass Beams.ACCESSIBILITY:SAE Melbourne is a 2-level campus. The first floor is accessible to the mobility impaired by use of a lift near reception. There are no impediments to entry on the ground floor from the front entrance on Normanby Rd. There are two accessible toilets on the ground floor. The lecture theatre is a multi-tiered space accessible by steps. However, the front row has no steps to access and has space for wheelchairs.
