Overview

Adults who speak English as a second language are welcome to join this book club to discuss books with a group of like-minded people.

Adults who speak English as a second language are welcome to join this weekly book club to discuss books with a group of like-minded people. Abridged versions of contemporary titles by popular authors (graded readers) are used for the discussions.

The ESL Book Club meets weekly on Tuesdays (excluding school holidays) 12.00-1.00 pm at Lionel Bowen Library:

  • Term 1: 27 January - 31 March
  • Term 2: 21 April - 30 June
  • Term 3: 21 July - 22 Sept
  • Term 4: 13 Oct - 15 Dec

Please note:

  • You only need to register once to be able to attend the weekly program until 15 December 2026.
  • Participants need to be able to attend most discussion meetings.
  • All books will be provided. After registration, you will receive an email with more details on how to arrange your first book collection.

  • Participants need to be able to attend most discussion meetings.
  • You must be a Library member to attend this event. Library membership is free and you can join online.
  • Your ticket can be cancelled by the organiser at any time without further notice.
  • Limited to one ticket per person. Duplicate tickets booked will be cancelled.
  • Please cancel your ticket if you do not wish to attend the book club anymore. This will enable others to participate.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes early to allow the event to run on time.
  • Due to the safety and enjoyment of participants, we are unable to admit latecomers to the room after the start time.
  • Patrons who fail to comply with the Terms and Conditions set out above will have their tickets cancelled.

  • Your attendance at events supported by Randwick City Council may be digitally recorded through photographs and/or video recordings. Images may be used for promotional purposes on council's websites, publications, social media or by newspapers. By attending this session you agree to these terms.
