Overview

Join us at Holdfast Bay Community Centre for a Kintsugi inspired workshop, make art and gently smash the idea of perfection !

Are you looking to CELEBRATE and SAVOUR the JOYOUS moments in life, to practise more self care and be well?

Do you struggle with the need for life, relationships, family or work... to be P E R F E C T ?

Perhaps you feel scared to risk failure, of leaping into the unknown.

What if you could make art to release some of that stress and worry and fear, and dip your toe into uncertainty.

What if you could Embrace Imperfection and make art as way to practise being ok with things not turning out the way you planned?

Join us at the Holdfast Bay Community Centre for a fun, engaging and messy art workshop, where we will create 2 art-works inspired by the Japanese philosophy of Kintsugi, and transform our fear of imperfection into a CELEBRATION of repair, resiliency and personal growth.

It is through our mistakes, failures and from falling down, that we learn to rise, to grow and discover more about ourselves.

At this workshop you will be guided step by step to:

1. Paint a personalised Kintsugi inspired painting on canvas, fabric or paper using acrylic paint and gold leaf

2. Gently smash a bowl, plate or cup, and mend Kintsugi style’, using a hot glue gun and gold leaf. (please note: the hot glue is messy and very imperfect)

You are welcome to bring along a favourite chipped cup, plate or bowl, to mend 'Kintsugi' style, or select one from our collection on the day.

Kintsugi (golden joinery) is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum, a method similar to the maki-e technique. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise

This will be a welcoming space, to connect with others, make mistakes and most importantly to find the joy in allowing yourself to relax, have fun and embrace imperfection.

Included in this workshop:

1 blank canvas, fabric or paper

1 cup, bowl or plate. (to smash and repair)

All materials included- Acrylic paint, table top easel, brushes, gold leaf, hot glue gun.

No art skills necessary, No judgement or expectations

Please wear 'art making' clothes, and/or bring an apron.

Drinks and refreshments will be provided, please notify me if you have specific dietary requirements.

Please be aware the smashing of plates is very controlled, but does create sharp edges and to be cautious of cuts.

This workshop is aimed at Adults and Suitable for children over 15
