We are pleased to have secured this recent festival hit, so far not widely distributed.  Noted actor David Wenham directed a segment of The Turning; this is his first full-length film as a director.  After Jasper accidentally bumps into Viv, breaking her phone, the two strangers spend a day and night wandering about inner Sydney together, encountering various eccentric locals.  Several critics have noted parallels with Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise.  What Wenham calls ‘a love letter to Sydney’ also has affinities with Woody Allen’s affectionate treatment of Manhattan. The film is somewhat experimental—shooting took only seven days and there is a lot of improvisation. The result is ‘an unhurried meditation on identity, transience and the comfort of strangers’ (Hollywood Reporter) involving ‘an infectious passion for people and their idiosyncracies (Guardian)’.
