Edith Cowan University Joondalup 270 Joondalup Drive Joondalup, WA 6027 AustraliaDescription
Staff and students are encouraged to attend an information session to introduce the SAGE Pilot of the Athena SWAN Charter in Australia at ECU. The University will examine factors that underpin the successful journey of women in their academic or professional journeys through its processes and inclusive cultural practices within the workplace environment.
Originating in the UK, the Athena SWAN Charter is an initiative that aims to recognise commitment to female careers in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM). The initiative not only applies to staff and students within these areas, it is relevant to all academic disciplines and non-academic staff.
ECU is now an inaugural member of the Athena SWAN Charter in Australia and has been successful in achieving inclusion in the first tranche of participating institutions in the first Australian Pilot. The Pilot includes 24 (of 43) Australian universities, five medical research institutes and two publicly funded research agencies.
SAGE Project Manager, Dr Zuleyka Zevallos will visit ECU to provide an overview of the application process and staff and students are invited to attend a session to learn about:
-
Changing the gender equity landscape in science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine (STEMM);
-
Objectives of the SAGE Pilot;
-
Purpose and benefits of the Athena SWAN Awards;
-
Bronze Institutional Application process and the SAGE Pilot program; and
-
How students, staff and leaders can get involved.
