Co-Design Series

Be part of the change toward sustainable systems, processes and behaviours. Help embed environmental thinking into our service design practice.

Decouple and interrogate environmental tools against service design methods to co-design a practical toolkit that we, as practitioners can easily embed into our day to day work.

A series of 2 events, each focusing on a different theme:

Identify & Design (8th Aug)

Identify eco opportunities in service blueprints, system mapping and business canvas models.
Design eco change through business strategy, process improvement, behaviour design and policy making.
Key speakers: Erwin Boermans, Sam Rye, Lina Patel, Jo Szczepanska and Dominique Hes

Influence & Measure (15th Aug)

Get buy in from key stakeholders by understanding and influencing their core behaviours and beliefs.
Measure to prioritise initiatives and prove environmental impact.
Key speakers: Inge van der Poel, Ashlee Riordan, Georgina Lewis, Gavin Melles and Megan Wright

Purpose:

Who it’s for: Experienced practitioners who want to create positive environmental impact through their everyday work and delivered outcomes. Service designers, clients and advocacy groups welcome.
How it’s different: This series of events allows for continuous interrogation and iteration of practical co-designed tools. All participants will be asked to take away the tools that have been prototyped during the workshop, to actively test them in their own project work. At the following event, they reflect back on the relevance and usefulness of each tool. Throughout the series, the tools will have been refined through a number of complex real life projects and situations.
Key speakers: Each event has a number of renowned speakers (within and outside of the service design industry) who will discuss the night's theme in detail through environmental case studies. They will also be actively participating in the co-design workshops.

What to bring:*

Project materials (Reflect on current or previous projects: where opportunities for environmental impact may have been, what the challenges were, what did or didn’t work.)

Environmental tools (i.e. Life Cycle Analysis, Circular Economy, Sharing Economy, Systems Design, Measurement Frameworks)

You’ll be asked to actively participate so please have these reference materials available.
*Print on scrap paper, we’ll be scribbling all over them. Remove any sensitive information you do not wish to share publicly, leave enough detail to be able to discuss it in depth.

------------------------------------------------------

Session Format:

Intro: Networking and discussing how previous co-designed tools went in real life projects.
Panel Discussion: Key speakers with environmental case studies go into detail about their approach, lessons learnt, plus tips and tricks for why something did or didn’t work.
Co-Design Workshop: Break out into small groups and discuss the different environmental tools you’ve brought. (What elements stand out as interesting and what elements could have be incorporated into previous project work. Discuss what has and hasn’t worked in previous projects, and why.) Outcome: practical prototype tools for creating environmental impact in project work.
Test: Each group shares back the elements they chose for their tool and why. Everyone can take away each prototype tool to test and learn from in real life projects. We want to make these tools as practical as possible, so testing and iterating is a key component of the series.
